I don't think there is an accurate English translation here. Translation should be something like "clothing dyed with murex", but there is no English word for that. (As opposed to Latin)

I saw on the Otzar Hachochma forum a new kunteres called חותם של אמת. It discusses mainly the historical proofs that the murex was used for blue, and touches on some other subjects as well. You can download it for free here.

Professor Koren discusses all the points you mentioned. It was impossible to get blue with exposure to sunlight, as he explains in great detail in his article.
